Privacy Policy

LAST UPDATED: MAY 20, 2026

We believe that your imagination, writing, and world-building notes belong to you and only you. This Privacy Policy details how we handle data and why our local-first approach guarantees your data privacy.

1. Privacy Philosophy

Traditional modern software tools operate under a SaaS model, storing user data on remote databases and locking features behind accounts. We built Lorebase to return complete digital sovereignty back to you.

Our core philosophy is simple: your workspace assets should only exist where you choose to save them. There are no remote tracking algorithms, no hidden cloud aggregators, and no forced logins.

2. Information We Collect

Because Lorebase runs as a local standalone application, the data we collect is zero:

  • No Personal Information: We do not require accounts, sign-ups, names, or emails to run the desktop application.
  • No Telemetry or Logging: The desktop app has zero built-in telemetry, crash reports tracking, or usage logs sent to our servers.
  • No Content Scraping: We have absolutely no mechanism to scan, analyze, index, or access the stories, maps, or characters you design. Your databases are yours alone.

3. Local Storage & Ownership

All workspace data created in Lorebase is written directly to your local file system:

  • Wikis and entry relations are stored in local SQLite databases on your machine.
  • Your map coordinates, properties, and markdown exports reside in folder paths you control.
  • Media elements (images, icons, files) are loaded directly from paths on your local drive.

You have absolute legal and digital ownership over the contents of your workspaces. You are free to copy, back up, delete, or migrate your files whenever and however you wish.

4. Real-time Collaboration

Lorebase offers optional real-time peer-to-peer collaboration using Yjs over WebSockets:

When you share your desktop environment, you are hosting a local socket server. Players or co-authors connect directly to your IP address or local network. Your collaboration data is shared peer-to-peer.

Alkali Softworks does not intercept or view any collaboration sync streams. When co-writing outside your local network, you can utilize our integrated, optional secure VPN service or standard third-party VPN/overlay networks.

5. Third-Party Services

If you follow external links on our website or within our documentation (e.g., Discord, GitHub, etc), those platforms maintain their own terms and privacy rules. We are not responsible for the data collection practices of external services.

6. Cookie Policy

We do not deploy marketing trackers, conversion pixels, or profiling cookies on our website. The desktop application uses no tracking cookies or telemetry whatsoever.
